CULTURAL ACTIVISM TODAY:
STRATEGIES OF OVER-INDENTIFICATION

The symposium was at the Stedelijk Museum CS, Amsterdam, The Netherlands on 19. January 2006, organised by the Jan van Eyck Academie & Stedelijk Museum.

Before the lecture started, as well during the pause, Laibach videos were screened. Among many lecturers (BAVO, Dieter Lesage, Jens Haaning, Boris Groys, Joep van Lieshout) only Dr. Alexei Monroe had a lecture directly connected to NSK. His lecture was in sound and vision describing the way NSK use the Stag as motif, its effects and its implications for contemporary culture. He also gave some background on traditional symbolic uses of the Stag, particularly in relation to power, as many dictators and other leaders have sought to associate themselves with the Stag and hunting.

After the symposium, Dr. Alexei Monroe’s new book “Interrogation Machine” on Laibach and NSK was presented, and the prerelease of the documentary film “Divided States of America” (2005) by Sašo Podgoršek & Laibach was screened.
