Laibach, NSK, and IRWIN at the Soundwatch Music Film Festival in Berlin

Igor Zupe’s three films explore the history, methodology, and cultural impact of NSK State, IRWIN, and Laibach. The featured films are “4:33 Laibach Remake,” “From Kapital to Capital,” and “An Apology for Modernity.”

Was ist Kunst, IRWIN?

The Slovenian artist collective IRWIN is celebrating its 40th anniversary with an exhibition titled “Was ist Kunst, IRWIN?”. The exhibition delves into the black humour that is always present in IRWIN’s work, as well as how they use the questions of the State to comment on contemporary issues, such as migration. The exhibition will open on Friday, September 8th, 2023.

A Gathering for Mass Instructions

The Slovene Ethnographic Museum in Ljubljana, Slovenia, held an event titled “Art Is Not A Luxury, But A Necessity” on the longest day of the year, June 21st. During the event, Alexander Nym presented the book he edited titled “Reden An Die Europäische Nation: Weapons of Mass Instruction.”

KonstruktK3 collective Art project

KonstruktK3 started as a collective virtual art project produced by 3 NSK citizens 24 weeks ago and going further in time on Instagram profile. Every week artists decide about a theme/concept for that week and make personal interventions - interpretations on a theme, involving the black cross object, first used in 2016 for the Malewitsch der Woche (Berthold Schymura) project. Art exhibition "24 CROSSing weeks / 24 tednov KRIŽenja" represents digital photo prints as materialization of the collective's interventions in the first 24 weeks of the project.

Online Symposium / Walking with the enemy

On Friday, November 20th at 18.00 (UTC +2), VIZ Laboratory for Visual Culture presents an online symposium addressed to all artists who follow art practices that have embraced mimicry rather than opposition as a subversive political strategy.

Laibach - 40th Anniversary Special Event

Laibach is marking 40 years of existence this year. There has already been series of anniversary events (two ongoing exhibitions and two concerts in Ljubljana), but the main event will be held on October 23rd in ‘Delavski Dom Trbovlje’ – where it actually all started 40 years ago. Unfortunately, due to the increasingly problematic viral situation and thus more stringent Covid-19 restrictions, a physical audience will not be allowed at the venue.

On this day in NSK State: FOLKART RISING 1916 – 2016

To be able to tell the story of the billboards, I have to return to Lagos, where Miran Mohar and I travelled to in July 2010. We went there because of the large number of applications for the NSK passports that we had received from Nigeria in the preceding years.

The 2nd NSK State Folk Art Biennale in Ireland

Burren College of Art in Ireland is pleased to announce The 2nd NSK State Folk Art Biennale: Folk Art Rising 1916 – 2016 as this year’s Burren Annual exhibition. The 2nd NSK State Folk Art Biennale will bring together over 30 international artists and collectives including special guests and NSK founding members, IRWIN.

Symposium: NSK Folk Art Rising 1916-2016

This one day symposium will elaborate on the themes addressed by the exhibition NSK Folk Art Rising 1916-2016 and their broader social and cultural impact in relation to the period of commemoration in Ireland and the precarious state of the European Union. Artists and invited guest speakers will discuss the role of the contemporary nation state, the aesthetics of memorialisation in relation to place (both real and imagined) and the relationship between artists/artist’s collectives to the current climate of globalization.

Third International NSK State Dacha

The NSK State Dacha is an annual citizen-driven initiative and temporary sovereign zone in the central New Mexican Desert. NSK Citizens and guests are invited to spend a holiday evening in an old Norwegian style log villa located on Highland Hill, where it once overlooked tuberculosis sanitariums, a psychiatric asylum, and breathtakingly crimson sunsets.
